I open one AVI file 700,000 kb, append a second AVI file 700,000 kb. Save as AVI file.
Nothing special, all standard settings, and this use to work for me but now. The saved AVI file is 90,000,000 kb. These are simple AVI movie files CD1 and CD2. I am running the 32bit VirtualDub, on my computer, OS Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit. 12 GB memory and plenty of HD room. Like I said I use to append files and everything worked fine. Now it has been about a year. have a few more that need merging and it just gives me these crazy file sizes on the merged file. I uninstalled VirtualDub, Deleted it. Downloaded, reinstalled, same result. Has to be something simple.

Thanks.

Yes it is something really simple: in the Video- and also the Audio-menu, select "Direct stream copy" instead of "Full processing mode".

You probably selected the last one, and in that case, if in the Video- and/or the Audio-menu there is no codec selected via "Compression", then your new file is being transformed into a large file of "uncompressed" video- and/or audio.
