I use Virtualdub all the time, one of my favorite programs.

But, the xvid codec needs upgraded and I do not know how to change it to a VDF file. I have loaded many filters into the Virtualdub Plugin folder, but they have always been in the .vdf format extension. Can someone tell me how to either get the latest xvid codec in the .vdf format or how can you load the upgraded xvid file in by using it as an external file. I have searched the web for the 1.3.2 xvid recent codec and it is all over the place, just can't find it as a virtualdub plugin .vdf file. I even searched how to change a .exe file to .vdf file but it was too confusing to me.

I read people are using the new 1.3.2 version in Virtualdub. Maybe through another program __

Any help highly appreciated.

VirtualDub uses codecs (VfW and ACM) installed in system - not through plugins.
Just install current Xvid version and codec should be available for any application that uses VfW (Video for Windows) framework.

Thanks for the reply, I did install the latest xvid codec, but it didn't show up as the latest version in virtualdub. Both virtualdub 1.9.9 and 1.10.2 the newer version of virtualdub I have on my computer. The xvid codec version shows as 1.3.127, not 1.3.2

Maybe I have to figure out if I have the correct codec packs installed as you mention to get the update in.

I only use virtualdub for one thing, that is I crop videos so they exaclly fit onto my 16 to 9 TV screen. I download my movies in avi format from my movie site I belong to and they are may different ratios and file sizes. I use xvid and user adjust the settings to

Search Mode Precision 8
VHQ Mode 4
Use Chroma Motion Checked
Tells Quantization Checked
Quantization Type Mpeg
Turbo Mode Selected
I also check the VHQ for BFrames Too

I always re-crop to 1.78 and sometimes use other filters like brightness, msu deblock, etc.

After I save as .avi, the compressed file I put into AVIAddSubs and place both English and Spanish subtitles to be in the final output file so I can select either when viewed. My wife speaks english and spanish but since whe is from South America prefers we watch with spanish subs. I have AVIAddSubs name the file as .divx and never have any problems playing the movies on anything.

Results are fairly good as long as I originally downloaded a xvid movie file of near 1 gig or more. My only concern is of course you already have the file compressed and after changes go ahead and use xvid again in virtualdub. But I have to do that because I crop and edit movie and then also add the sujbs to the divx file.

Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the help, I got the newer version xvid 1.3.2 in virtualdub. I got this error installing, but chose ignore and let it continue. When opening virtualdub, now I show the newer version.

error copying from c:/documents and settings/user/local settins/temp/xvid_x86/xvidvfw.dll to c]:windows/system32/xvidvfw.dll
