I have installed:
quicktime.vdplugin,
FLV.vdplugin
WMV.vdplugin
MPEG2.vdplugin
Quicktime.ini is in the VirtualDub root folder
.MOV files open fine. The QuickTime plugin claims to open some MP4 but indicates that audio is not supported.
The .MP4 files from my GoPro Helmet Hero camera open in VirtualDub but when I try to play one, I get an error message: "No audio decompressor can be found to decompress the source audio format (source format tag 00ff)" and the video will not play.
The source audio format is described (in the Advanced File Information pane of AVS4YOU video converter) as MPEG-2/4 audio, 48,000 samples per second, 128 KB/second. |

Thanks. I downloaded the .zip archive, extracted the files and tried to install the 64-bit version as instructed. I got this error message:
Copy error
An error occurred while copying the file AACACM.acm
Cannot copy file to destination directory.
Click Retry to retry the operation or click Cancel to
[Retry] [Cancel]
Also, a black command-line window appears with the one word "installing" in it.
I also get a message asking whether I want to continue thei nstallation without copying the file. If I try that, I get the message "installation failed."
My computer is running Windows 7 Home Premium and has an Intel i5 processor.
Any ideas about how to get past this problem? |

Ah, I had to right click and select "run as administrator" -- that instruction didn't come up in the error message. So, it appears to have installed. Next I'll see whether it works. Do I have to restart the computer first, I wonder? |

Usually no for the first install of the codec but it may be required when you update it.
Just try, if it no longer say "No audio decompressor can be found ... 00ff", then it works.
Remember 32-bit VirtualDub will use only 32-bit codecs while 64-bit VirtualDub will use only 64-bit codecs.
32 and 64-bit codecs can coexist on the same system.

I restarted the computer; 32-bit codec is now installed, with 32-bit VirtualDub, on 64-bit system. I still get the same error message. I wonder whether another codec is taking precedence and making this not work. How do I sort that out? |

Hey, I'm not sure what I did but now it works. I may have installed the wrong version of the codec earlier. |
