Working w/ Deshaker v2.7 (same result w/ v2.4) and Vdub v1.9.11.
I'm trying to re-edit a clip I'd done previously. In the previous version, I'd used the Deshaker filter to clean up some shake caused by wind buffeting the tripod and it worked really well. I used Fixed Zoom (no borders) as the Edge Compensation and everything else was left at the default settings. Vdub version at the time was probably 1.9.4 or something around there.
Now, the filter is creating a really odd and dramatic rotation in the output version toward the end of the clip and it's not doing anything to solve shake throughout the rest of the clip. I haven't uploaded the source or output clips to my server but if someone wants to see them I'll do it.
Thoughts?
Thanks. |

Decrease block size to reduce effect. This happens when small objects rotate on the screen. Post file too. |

Thanks for the quick reply. Changing block size made no difference, unfortunately. As noted previously, default settings were used in prior edit except for using Fixed Zoom as Edge Compensation.

Note: At abt 9:20 pm EDT, the last two clips are about 50% uploaded and should be completed by abt 9:30 pm. |

The key here is really small block sizes and high deshaking of zoom. Camera roll not applicable.
Try these, its pretty good

Thanks. Tried those settings. No joy. Toward the end it still does that huge rotation. Main difference is that the rotation back is more staggered. Clearly it worked on the original without issue. Not sure what's different now considering the input images are the same.
EDIT: OK, got it sorted. I turned off rotation detection in Pass 1 and that addressed it. Not sure why it would be different now from the previous version but it worked.
EDIT 2: Now the deshaker filter is crashing. Any change I try to make to the Pass 2 parameters crashes it. I've deleted and recopied the filter into the plugins folder and rebooted the computer with no change. The text file of the crash data download is here, http://rf-photography.ca/crashinfo.txt. It's indicating a memory access error but I don't believe there is a problem with the RAM in the computer.
Thanks. |

First, I forgot to say that these are some great shots.
Second, convert the video to avi with xvid compression. Use xmedia recode to do this, its free.
I believe your issue is related to the plugin which you might be using if its mp4. I ran the video with the suggested settings and got pretty good results back.
You can also import the image sequence directly into vdub as well. Just a guess here at this point.
It would be nice to have a developer look at the crash report and give you some help. I am just really proficient with deshaker |

Actually, I am using AVI files inside Vdub. I use the Lagarith Lossless codec. I just convert to MP4 to upload to the web because it's a good balance between file size and image quality.
I have sent an email to the developer of Deshaker with a link to the crash info file but figured I'd try here as well.
Thanks on the shots. The cloud movement really helps I think.

The developer of deshaker does answer emails but he is very stubborn, be warned lol. I think since I got positive results with my avi in xvid compression, I would suggest trying as well. I think at the end of the day, the developer make the same deduction. Have you tried other codecs? |

Haven't tried other codecs because this has worked well in the past. When something works well then doesn't work it's difficult to understand why the same codec may cause problems now when it didn't previously, even earlier today. It's odd.
EDIT: It appears the Deshaker log file is damaged or somehow corrupted. I've traded a couple messages with Gunnar and he asked about the log file so I changed the name and, voila, no crash. |

I would try another codec just to narrow the problem down. Give the guy time, he will answer you email or at least he has for me on multiple occasions. The famous answer I get is that the software does what I want it to which is rightfully true. |
