WMV3/9 is set to wmv9 in the vfw configuration of ffdshow-tryout.
In VirtualDub I open a .wmv file with WMV3 video and it works but under File => File information... it still say "Missing codec (WMV3)".

You're talking about video codec? I've never seen this. The video plays in Virtualdub?

Here is a screenshot of three different WMV files opened in Virtualdub. One says Windows Media Video 9 and the other two say ffdshow Video Codec. The only missing codec that I get is with Windows Professional Audio.

Do you have the version 2.3 of the WMV plugin?

The video codec isn't really missing (since it can show the video), it is just wrongly saying it.

I'm still using 2.0. I'll download 2.3 and see if I get the same results. How come yours says windows media audio v2 and not divx audio?

EDIT: Tried version 2.3 and get the same thing as you. Missing Codec.

It say Windows Media Audio v2 because I use the original Microsoft ACM codec instead of the hacked one, look here: http://forums.virtualdub.org/index.php?act...=ST&f=7&t=19596

I almost never use WMV so I don't really know what are the differences between them.

Will installing the wmp6 codecs mess up the wmp9 and wmp11 codecs or just add the wma acm that the other two codec packs don't have? Most people don't know that this codec exists and either use the DivX 3.11 or just the divx audio codec which there is a separate download for now. I still have a few DivX 3.11 files on my computer so I have to use that codec anyway since the newer DivX codecs don't support it.

I assume there is still no way to open windows professional audio.

I use Windows Media Stream Processor to extract the professional audio, dbPoweramp to convert to something usable and insert into Virtualdub.

I tried to download from the link but it told me I had too many parasite downloads and wanted me to pay for the pro version. I declined.

To download the file open the link, select for example megaupload, (do NOT click on premium) just wait the counter to reach 0 and then click "Regular download" (it may be called "Slow download" on other sites).
The wmp6cdcs.exe contains also other microsoft codecs (in addition to WMA ACM), about "mess up" I'm not really sure but it is a Microsoft download so it should be safe enough but if I find an installer with only the ACM codec I will tell you.

For windows professional audio there isn't anything (but technically you could open the video directly through the WMV plugin and open the audio though Audio => Audio from other file... using DirectShow plugin, this will allow Direct Stream Copy of video but you are still forced to use Full Processing Mode for audio; but I'm not sure if the Video/Audio sync will be good in this way, I haven't yet tried).

To decode the video of DivX 3.11 you could simply use ffdshow-tryout (in both DirectShow for players and VFW for VirtualDub).
ffdshow-tryout (using libavcodec) also handle broken videos a lot better than original codecs.

This was an overlooked bug introduced by the many changes of version 2.3. Thank you for catching it.
