I've still yet to find one which can eliminate light noise (from very good reception TV captures) but still preserve fine detail. I guess it's very hard for 2D filters to remove this, but you might have more lucky with temporal ones. Unfortunately they seem to cause other problems (weird motion artifacts).

Also make sure you specifiy what settings you use! I'm also looking for a filter to clean up the colour problems you get with VHS but that doesn't wash the image out.

Here's the filters I use mostly
For Quality:
Smart Smoother HiQuality (2.11)
Config(5, 50, 0, 254, 1, 0, 1, 0)
Temporal smoother (Internal)
Config(5);

For Speed:
2d Cleaner optimized (0.9)
Config(0, 7, 2, 2)
Temporal Smoother (Internal)
Config(4)

As always I tweak each one a little for each capture.

Use the Matroska file format
