Phaeron mentioned the Video menu and the set range option and after trying several things I can't see how that would remove only the video. You'll have to wait for more experienced opinions...

1.Load your video file in Vdub
2.Click video>direct stream copy
3.Click audio>no audio
4.Use the slider bar/right arrow tabs untill you get to the beginning of the segment you want
5.Click the markin tab
6.Repeat #4 untill you get to the end of the segment you want
7.Click the markout tab
8.Click file>save as avi
9.Name your file and save it

@musa08
Let me get this straight:
You want in your movie to have a segment with no video, but only sound, right?
Or is what tigerman8u said?

tigerman8u misunderstood what I said. Yes I want to have a segment with no video and only sound. Or I guess I can use another freeware with multi track option to do that if you know any.

In virtualdub I guess you can make a fill (with what color you want) or adjust the brightness/contrast for the segment you want with the curve editor.
As far as a multitrack editor you can try Wax. It's not everything u need, but it does a decent job and plus u can use virtualdub plugins with it.

My sorry for the misunderstanding
1.Load your video file in Vdub
2.Use the slider bar/right arrow tabs untill you get to the beginning of the segment you want
3.Click the markin tab
4.Repeat #2 untill you get to the end of the segment you want
5.Click the markout tab
6.Click file>Save wav
This will extract and save the audio as a wave file
Use an audio compressor (I like/use Belight, GUI for Besweet, both free) to compress the wave file file to the type you want ie mp3, ac3 etc.
