I was looking for a way to remove the Subtitles of a movie, and found there was no good filter for this. Sure, LogoAway is a great tool, but not really for Subtitles. So I create my own.
The one I have now nicely detects when a subtitle appears, based on the typical location, and the fact subtitels are normally of one single color, with often recurring sudden changes into another bordered color. (often not to bright white bordered by one pixel almost black)
In my movie, the one I wrote it for, it beautifully detects when, the size and the shape of the subtitle and smutches this out.
I'd like to see if I can use the same rules on other movies. Can someone send me some 10 sec sample avi's with subtitles? Please offer here first before you start sending anything.

I keep subtitles in a text file and not encoded in movies. but could you post your filter somewhere or place a link to it so we can help you testing? |

Very wise, to keep 'm in separate files. Gives you more flexibility and better quality movies. (A relative large portion of the bitrate goes into subtitles otherwise). But what do you do if you have a source that already has subtitles in them?
Anyway, I am not in a phase where I want to distribute anything. I used my filter in one movie, and it worked. I need to test if other sources can be approached using the same method before I package up. |

I have a great sample for you. Let me know. I'd love to get a look at your new filter.
