[B][COLOR=blue] what is the best combination to use when converting avi to mpeg at the moment i use avi2vcd to decompress to a pcm file then convert this using tmpeg to a pal/ntsc format and burn using nero to a pal/ntsc vcd, the problem being that a lot of the pcm files have a frame rate of 14.985 fps or 12.5 fps which results in slightly jerky motion on the vcd is there any way around this to get a smoother conversion using virtualdub as this seems to be happy playing the avi at 12.5fps or 14.985 and is smooth to the eye any help would be greatly appreciated before i go into a seizure thanks |

I don't see why you are using avi2vcd since TMPGEnc can convert the avi to vcd format on its own. The 14.985 frame rate is half NTSC, so I recommend converting that video to an NTSC disc, as I presume that TMPGEnc will just double each frame. The 12.5 rate is half PAL, so you should burn that to a PAL disc for the same reason. (Unfortunately you can't mix PAL and NTSC on the same disc.)

i use the avi2vcd decompress to get the audio decompressed thats all then i have a pcm.avi file which i can convert with tmpeg to a pcm.mpeg file, i had noticed the frame rate was half of pal or half of ntsc so i have been converting 12.5 to pal and 14.985 to ntsc and burning with nero to the respective format but even on the best quality setting i still get a glitchy playback on a dvd/vdc player ,is there any way of using virtualdub to iron this out, the result is very sharp if the souce avi was good to start with and watchable but i just get picky after converting an avi for 2 hours and the camera always seems a bit shaky because of the frame drop, if there is one and with big action scenes the picture seems slow motion at times with ie.wind blowing someones hair or the camera panning round thanks for any ideas |

Just Make sure when you are Encodeing in Tmpgenc you choose the Proper frame rate setting ,For example with a File that has a Framerate of 14.985fps Choose the "14.985fps(29.97fps Internaly)" setting as opposed to the "29.97fps" setting, and the same with the 12.5fps files choose the "12.5fps(25fps Internally)" setting, You should get smoother playback this way.... |
