Hi i'm relatively new to using virtualdub, and would like to reduce a movie file. Only problem is that i still want a good resolution. I want to use xvid with a resolution of 640x480, but with all the times i've tried to convert a movie file it is always at a resolution of about 352x240. Is there anyway i can change the settings so that i can get it in 640x480? Need help asap on this! |

Go to Video > Filters. Pick resize. Set width to 640, height, to 480 and for Filter mode pick Bicubic. That last step is important because if you leave it on Nearest Neighbor your video will look really blocky and mosaic. |

Umm, what do you intend to do here? Reprocessing a 352x240 video to 640x480 will only give you a less efficient file that looks no sharper than the original. |

yers.... good point. What *IS* your original size? Using the XVID codec won't decrease the size at all, it must be either a resize filter that you're using, or the player is shrinking it when you play it back.
Either way, as suggested above, to reduce, use "resize" with "lancoz3". You can use it to go UP in size too, but it's physically impossible to GAIN or keep quality by stretching it up/out... UNLESS.. you have one of those super-computers that FBI agents have in those movies where they can say "ENHANCE!" in a demanding voice. ;op |
