Mpeg Layer-3 Audio Compression

Hi all,

I compress my MPEG-1 files to AVI, using Divx 5.02 video compression and MPEG layer-3 audio compression. This works great on one of my computers, but on another computer, for some reason, I don't have any available formats for MPEG layer-3 audio compression (The selection for MPEG-layer3 is there, but when I click on it, no formats show up). This makes it hard since I always have to tranfer the files (which is very big ~ 500 MB) over to the other computer that has the formats to compress the audio.

How can I get MPEG layer-3 audio compression, or is there something I have to enable? The other computer has it, but I don't know how its there (or perhaps the app that came with it), or what files comprise of the MPEG layer-3 compressor.

Thanks all!

Hi,
there are diffrent mp3 codecs available, the "original" windows codec is not the best, you should check out, which codec is installed on your working computer and install this one in your non working machine.

Hi BaronVlad,

Thanks for your reply. How do I check out which codec is isntalled on my computer and where do I look for those files? All I know is that for the working computer, I have the option to select a variety of different formats to compress when MPEG layer 3 audio compression is selected. But I don't know where the mp3 codec is installed (is there an easy way to find out?).

Once I find the files, where would I install these files on my non-working machine? By the way, the non-working machine is win XP home. Should I put these in the VirtualDub's plugin directory?

Thanks,
maupet
