I have been struggling to get VD to capture successfully from my Pixelview TV Pro card for weeks, and have followed all the advice (usually to check the sound settings for Line in) without any luck. The card *is* connected properly, because I can get video and audio when I use it in DScaler (and it captures well with audio and video in DScaler, too). When I capture in VD, however, audio is absent. Veeeery strange. ph34r.gif

Any suggestions as to areas to check in VD settings (?) or Win2K config would be appreciated. I've wondered whether it has to do with the fact that, along with the sound card built into the motherboard, I also have a USB audio device. Is this confusing the s/w? I think this is grasping at straws, since removing the USB device doesn't seem to help.....

Hopefully yrs blink.gif

First you should look into Audio -> volume Meter in Caoture Mode of VDub. Do you have sound there ? Is the sound really line in or maybe mic ? Change the options there and see whether it works or not

No volume shows on the meter from within VD capture. If I switch it to stereo I seem to get a signal of sorts on the meter, but it doesn't appear to be actual audio (it is fixed and doesn't vary at all with the broadcast) but rather noise on the line. I have tried setting it variously from Line in to Mic to.... BTW, one of the sound settings available on the Win2K recording console is TV audio (?). Since my card doesn't have audio of its own but cables audio over to my sound card, where does this come from? Or is this a standard Win2k feature with nothing to do with my TV capture card? sad.gif

I didnt get it exactly what happens on your machine blink.gif

But may it be that different sources are connected to your soundcard ? Try to connect only one source to your card, for example the sound out of your TV Card into your sound card. Deactivate all other sound devices and sources. Then only ONE source can be found. And if you then found it, it should work (Try different options in the windows sound settings -> recording from mic OR line in, and deactivate the boost when using mic)

BTW I am also using the crappy onboard sound, but it works somehow, a little hint: If you have a VCR, then try to connect the audio out of it to the line in of your sound device, it is better and it is normally stereo, what your TV capture Card is not often. But please be sure to switch the VCR to the same channel as your TV application is on your computer...

I'll try to explain again (and more clearly). My capture card works well and gives decent video *and* audio when I use DScaler to capture. In VD, though, capture only gives me video, not audio, and the audio volume meter shows nothing. I have an onboard sound card and have disconnected the microphone so that only the Line in from the capture card is in use.

Tell me, if everything is working properly then should I get sound when VD goes into capture mode even if no actual capturing is taking place?

I'm beginning to think that there is really no getting to the bottom of this. Maybe I should dig out an old sound card, put it in my machine, and by-pass the on-board sound to see what happens....(?)

Thx for the help.

The problem must have been with the BT878 drivers. When I replaced those installed (I think they were the ones that came with my Pixelview Play TV Pro card) with the GPL drivers, voila! sound in capture mode. QED.
