Hi all...wondering if anyone might be able to help...

I'm trying to load my MOV files taken with a Canon EOS 60D into Virtual Dub so that I can convert them into AVI files and then process in Registax.

I have loaded this plugin to the VirtualDub files folder (all operating on 64 bit ) http://fcchandler.home.comcast.net/~fcchan...gins/QuickTime/ but VirtualDub will still not recognise the MOV files.

What am I doing wrong ?...anyone..?...Please?

Thanks
Steve.

The first question should be: Are you able to play these MOV-files via the standard Windows Media Player or via Apple QuickTime player ?

If so, then chances are great that you can open these MOV-files in VirtualDub, by using the DirectShow inputdriver plugin, that you can find here:

Installation means: unzip the DShowInputDriver.vdplugin to the Pluginsxx subfolder of your VirtualDub installation.
After that, when in the Open video file-dialogbox of VirtualDub, first select the MOV-file, then at Files of type: do select "DirectShow input driver" and finally click Open.

Also take care when using VirtualDub 64-bit, you also have to use 64-bit inputdriver plugins and 64-bit codecs.

Concerning the QuickTime inputdriver, I doubt you did find it on the given location. That site is off-line since a long time.
Actually you can find a "FccHandler Mirror" at http://sourceforge.net/projects/fcchandler.../?source=navbar (thanks to dloneranger).

If you try and select the QuickTime files inputdriver in VirtualDub's Open video file-dialogbox and you are not able to open your MOV-files, then there are probably missing codecs. Try to find out which ones via MediaInfo ( http://sourceforge.net/projects/mediainfo/ ). Probably AVC/H.264 for video and AAC for audio.

You could eventually install "ffdshow-tryouts" (available in 64-bit) and enable the needed decoders.

Thanks for the input Abrazo....

My MOV files do play fine with the Windows Media Player.

I installed , un-zipped and put the DirectShow inputdriver plugin (64 bit) into the VirtualDub Plugins folder...as you suggested . However , again , when I try to load the MOV files , for some reason VirtualDub will not recognise them.

I'm not sure what you mean when you talk about codecs...sorry.

Any suggestions ..?

Thank you !

Steve.

File, Open; under "Files of type," select "DirectShow input driver," THEN select the file.

QUOTE
The plugin never auto-detects a file, so you will need to choose "DirectShow input driver" from the file type drop-down in the Open File dialog.

if don't see .mov type of files then
QUOTE
Version 0.92+
The plugin can now be configured directly without loading a file with the latest VirtualDub 1.10.2+

(see options, plugins... - add mov extension there)

If "Convert to AVI" meaning "direct stream copy" then you don't need DirectShow input driver.
Camera using H.264 video inside .mov container: try installing x264vfw x64 for the Quicktime filter.
Audio - ???

Thanks to raffriff42 and meowmeow for helping.

@steveporter
If it is still too complicated working with codecs/decoders etcetera, then please try the FFMPegdriver inputdriver plugin for VirtualDub.
(Thanks to dloneranger)

Installation:
Unzip content to the installationfolder of your VirtualDub, and be sure to "Use folder names"-parameter (of WinZip) when unzipping/extracting !
With this I mean: the FFMpegInputdriver_64.vdplugin should be extracted into the "plugins64" subfolder and the *.dll files to the "ffdlls" subfolder (in "plugins64").

After installation, try again, but this time, when in the Open Video File dialogbox, do select "FFMpeg Supported Files" at Files of type, the select your *.MOV file and click the Open button.

Please reply if it works (or not ?).

Hi,

I am having the same issue as Steve. Based on his description, he and I are probably trying to do the same thing. Namely, use VirtualDub to convert MOV videos of planets (Jupiter, I bet) taken with Canon EOS cameras to AVI files. These AVI files are then processed in Registax into stacked TIFF's which are then further processed to pull out planetary details (cloud bands, Great Red Spot, etc.).

I have loaded the Fcchandler plugin and I can see the MOV files in the list. I can open the MOV's, but get audio only - no video. The word MISSING is in the lower right hand side of the screen. I can open the MOV's and see the video and audio in my Quicktime player, but VirtualDub must need something else.

Can you tell us what the something else is? Are we missing codecs? If so, where can we find those?

Thanks!

Please start by trying the most simple method:

1) DOWNLOAD the FFMPeg inputdriver plugin for VirtualDub:
(Thanks to dloneranger)

2) How to INSTALL the downloaded inputdriver ?
In the downloaded ZIP-file you will find two ranges of files: one for a 32-bit installation of VirtualDub, and another one for a 64-bit installation of VirtualDub.
(So, choose one of these ranges, corresponding to what xx-bit version of VirtualDub you have installed.)
Unzip the correct range of files to the "plugins32" (or plugins64) subfolder of your VirtualDub installation.
Be sure to "Use folder names"-parameter (of WinZip) when unzipping/extracting !
With this I mean: the FFMpegInputdriver.vdplugin should be extracted into the "plugins32" subfolder and the *.dll files to the "ffdlls" subfolder (in "plugins32").

3) GIVE IT A TRY
- Start VirtualDub
- In the "Open Video File" dialogbox, do select "FFMpeg Supported Files" at Files of type, then select your *.MOV file and click the Open button.

Thanks for all the input and help....

I've actually gone a slightly easier route for my processing...I can just load my EOS MOV files directly into AutoStakkert2 , evaluate and stack them there , then go to Registax for further processing.

Thank you all for taking time to respond .

Steve Porter.
