Hi all,
So after spending the better part of a day and not being able to get the newest version of VD to work I caved and tried a random older version, 1.8.1, which seemed to work fine.
Anyways. After getting it to work and trying it out a few times, i accidentally loaded a new video and immediately saved to avi with deshaker set for pass 2, with out doing a pass 1 first. I then played the saved video which looked fine and deshaken. This made me wonder what the hell pass 1 was for, when everything seemed to work fine without it. To compare I ran the same unshaken video through both pass 1 and 2, just to see if i´d notice a difference which might explain the use of pass 1. I then ran both the videos side by side and they looked similar enough that I could not tell the difference just by doing that. So I´m back to wondering why I should spend time doing pass 1, which takes a lot longer than pass 2. What am I missing?

pass 1 makes a log file of each frames movements etc pass 2 uses that movement file to deshake the video
doing pass 2 without pass 1 just uses the previously created file unless pass 1 and 2 have been done on the same source video, then the results could be "interesting"
offhand i'd guess you'd already done a pass 1 on that source video??

I thought about that. To avoid it, I made a copy of the original "shaky" video and renamed it before doing the pass 2 only on it. My logic was, that if the name of the video doesn´t match the name of the log file, then it wont use the log file,... don´t know if this is true or not...? |

The deshaker log file is shown in it's configuration dialog The name of the video file doesn't matter, as filters don't know the name of the video file(s) in the first place
