Hi

I am trying to edit and convert Media Center .WTV files produced from UK Freeview (MPEG-2) to DIVX .AVI.

I have managed to get to the point where I have a clean .TS file which I can load into VDub without problem, however, I cannot play the file which appears to be all key frames, although I can edit it and produce a usable .AVI file. However, because I can't play it, I am having to guess the edit points, which is a problem.

Any ideas.

Thanks

You can not play it from within VirtualDub ?

Do you get an error message or does it do nothing at all when you click the Input Playback button ?

Did you set Video- and Audio-menu to "Full processing mode" before clicking the Play button ?

When the Output Playback button does nothing, then you can try by un-checking "Sync to audio" in the Options-menu.

If any of Abrazo suggestions haven't worked. Scan your file with MediaInfo copy the [View - Text] or [View - Tree] report and paste here.

Sorry should have posted the message

The decompression codec cannot decompress to a RGB format. This is very unusual. Check that any "Force YUY2" options are not enabled in the codec's properties.

I have a DIVX codec specified for video with full processing and Lame for audio with full processing.

Each frame is marked as K frame.

I have no problem scrolling through the file, it is just playback that fails

Probably not relevant, but I routinely use a graph filter to convert (North America) .wtv to mpeg2 (program stream);the mpeg is accepted by VirtualDub and every fifteen frames is a key frame.
Plays without problems

Probably the problem is caused by a codec that is able to decode the MTS format, but is not delivering the information in an acceptable format for VirtualDub. Maybe you should try to find out which codec that is and uninstall it. Maybe it is part of a "codec pack" or a "video converter" program.

Normally you should be able to open and to play MTS by installing the DirectShow inputdriver plugin for VirtualDub and appropriate codecs (ffdshow).

Downloads:
- ffdshow : http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow-tryout/
- DirectShow inputplugin : http://www.virtualdub.org/beta/DShowInputD...Driver-0.93.zip

Install the inputdriver by unzipping the "DShowInputDriver.vdplugin"-file to the "plugins32" subfolder of your VirtualDub installation

Install ffdshow by running the EXEcutable file.

After installing ffdshow you will have:
a "Video decoder configuration" menu
- open it / in the left column: click on Codecs / than at the right enable H.264/AVC1 / click OK
and an "Audio decoder configuration" menu
- open it / in the left column: click on Codecs / than at the right enable AC3 / click OK

In VirtualDub, while in the "Open video file..."-dialogbox, first click once on the MTS file, and then at ""Files of type" select DirectShow Input driver.
Finally click OK.

It shows you have a normal mpeg-2 format video with ac3 audio in a ts container

As Abrazo has said try with DShowInputDriver.vdplugin http://www.virtualdub.org/beta/DShowInputD...Driver-0.93.zip It will have loaded if your system has the correct splitters and decoders to manipulate the file in virtualdub.

If your video hasn't loaded it could be the splitter to split video and audio streams or decoder to decode the video or audio streams. One way to know this is by using GraphStudioNext http://code.google.com/p/graph-studio-next/ or other graph editor. Drop your .ts video onto the the GraphStudioNext or other screen if see a graph (boxes) and can play > the video it means the codecs and filters need are installed in your os.

Also means the DShowInputDriver.vdplugin is loading the video and not the ac3 audio with virtualdub. You will need to install an AC3 decoder so virtualdub can decode the audio. An AC3 decoder can be downloaded from here is here https://sourceforge.net/projects/fcchandler/files/

If Graph edit cannot play the file, no filters after the video box or at all. Install LAVFilters http://code.google.com/p/lavfilters/then try again

I did have DShowInputDriver installed on my system but it was a 2010 version, I've updated it to the version on the link posted and I now get

The file abc.ts is of an unknown or unsupported file type.

Just to add I thought I would check and see if any of my other plugins had newer versions.

I'm using FccHandler's MPEG-2 plugin, there is a newer version but on reading the notes it says that this won't read Transport Streams only Programme ones, assuming that this is now the problem, is there one that will process a .ts file?

Thanks

Don't mind to install/reinstall 'Haali media splitter' ?

Jam One

I have installed it but do I need to do anything in VDub to reference it?

-vdub-

VDub is now crashing when I try and open the video "an exception occurred in module "KERNELBASE". I've tried saving the crash report but it is not being produced.

I am using 1.9.4 but I downloaded the latest version 1.10.3 and have the same problem.

I 'suppose' (= not absolutely sure) that you already tried with multiple inputdriver plugins for VirtualDub ?

If you installed the FFMpeg inputdriver plugin, then this one seems to be used by default by VirtualDub to open MTS files,
and when you did not install the "ffdlls" subfolder of the FFMpeg inputdriver plugin, then you get the error "An exception error occured in module KERNELBASE".

When there are no inputdriver plugins at all, you get the warning "The file xxx is of an unknown or unsupported file type".

So, let's say that the DirectShow inputdriver plugin should be the best one to have chances to open the MTS file, did you really try it the way I told you :

In VirtualDub, while in the "Open video file..."-dialogbox, first click once on the MTS file, and then at "Files of type" select DirectShow Input driver.
Finally click OK.

There is no DirectShow driver showing in the files of type dropdown.

I have confirmed that DShowInputDriver is in the Plugins32 directory.

So, if you do not see that "DirectShow input driver" option at Files of type, something must still be wrong.

Normally when you have downloaded that plugin, you have got it as *.ZIP file.
When you open this ZIP file (with for exemple 7Zip or WinZip), you normally will see three files:
- Copying
- DShowInputDriver.vdplugin in a folder "release\"
- DShowInputDriver.vdplugin in a folder "x64\release\"

Just be sure to extract
- the "release\" one, if you have 32-bit version of VirtualDub, or
- the "x64\release\" one, if you have 64-bit version of VirtualDub.
So you will have the right DShowInputDriver.vdplugin file in the plugins32 folder of VirtualDub.

I think that chances are great that you just put the DShowInputDriver.ZIP file in the plugins32 folder... (or not ?)
By the way, are the file extensions (like *.ZIP, *.AVI, *.MTS, ...) visible in Windows Explorer ?
You may have to uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types" in Windows Explorer, via Tools-menu > Folder Options... > View-tab

Although I am running Windows 7 x64 I am using the 32 bit version of VDub, the full filename in Plugins32 is DShowInputDriver.vdplugin.

I'll download the current stable release and create a new directory with just the DShowInputDriver.vdplugin installed and try again.
