I am using VDub almost for a decade now ...
Using the VDub 1.9.9 build 32817 ...

But recently I get this "strange" problem ...
I am trying to save a damage AVI but got thsi strange results :
File 733.501.440 bytes XVID codec

If I try to open it without the advanced options I get 921 frames ( 00:30 min) ...
With these errors:
[!] AVI: Index not found or damaged -- reconstructing via file scan.
[!] AVI: Invalid chunk detected at 7771996. Enabling aggressive recovery mode.
[!] AVI: Keyframe flag reconstruction was not specified in open options and
the video stream is not a known keyframe-only type. Seeking in the video
stream may be extremely slow.
[!] AVI: Variable bitrate (VBR) audio detected. VBR audio in AVI is
non-standard and you may encounter sync errors up to 69ms when attempting
to extract WAV files or playing in some players. If this is a problem, use
Full Processing mode is recommended to decompress or recompress the audio.
(This warning can be disabled in Options, Preferences, AVI. bitrate: 125.9
± 16.0 kbps)

Opening with the "Advanced options" activating : Forcing re-derive keyframe flags +
Opening AVIFile in compatibility mode I get:
[!] AVI: Index not found or damaged -- reconstructing via file scan.
[!] AVI: Invalid chunk detected at 7771996. Enabling aggressive recovery mode.
± 16.0 kbps)

but this time I get 98087 frames ...

If I try to go past the "921" frame I get : Error damaged 921 frame ...
Also in the Input pane I get the last good keyframe (921) ....

If I try to "scan Video stream for errors" I get a new modal window that starting from 0 to 98087 ...
Starting ok bu stops at 916 frame ...
At the status bar I get :
97166 frames masked (0 frames bad, 97166 frames good but undecodable)

What else can I do to recover the data ?

You could try DivFix++ http://divfixpp.sourceforge.net/

With the amount of damage that file has, you'll be lucky if it works

--------------------
MultiAdjust JoinWav WavNormalize FFMPeg Input Plugin v1827 UnSharpMask
Windows7/8 Codec Chooser
All FccHandlers Stuff inc. Installers for acm codecs AAC, AC3, LameMp3

I have tried DivFix with no success...
It simply reads and identify the file and gives an empty "Bad frame Report" ....

I thought that VDub would be a better tool for this job...

Meanwhile I have tried "old" AVIMedic that gave me a small graphic with the position and number of the errors ...
Even giving some info regarding "patches" but due to the lack of documentation I do not know how to proceed further ...

VDub has an Hex Editor and I tried to check the data manually but to no avail ... sad.gif

Any more ideas ?
