Hello,
I seem to be experiencing a problem with one of my .avi files (I'm trying to split it).
When I try to open it through Virtualdub, I get an error stating:

The File "-file location & name goes here" is of unknown or unsupported file type.

The thing that confuses me is that it's a .avi file.

Properties:
Type of File: AVI file (.avi)
Size: 1.55GB

The file plays perfectly fine on VLC player.
Version of Vdub is 1.8.4

Any suggestions?

Thanks for all the help~

It's probably another format renamed to .avi. You'd have to use some format verification tool to see what it really is.

Oh okay, thanks. Do you happen to know where I can get one of those?
Thanks again,

Oh thanks!
It turns out it's an MPEG-4 Visual (XviD)
1 Audio Stream: Vorbis

So I'm guessing I need the MPEG plug-in and place it in the "plug-ins" folder?

EDIT: Unfortunately, I could only find the plug-in for MPEG-2 sad.gif

Hmm... Vorbis audio...

Look carefully at Container and general information in MediaInfo.
I guess it's OGM container.
Try VirtualDubMod.

Oh,
Err it says:

"OGG: -size & time goes here-"

Thanks for the help!
I'll try Virtualdubmod.

EDIT: Yup- Virtualdubmod works, however, I'm only used to the method of using Virtualdub, so I can't seem to find the option to directly stream the audio as well =/

Also can try Avidemux - also supports OGM.

Exactly what you want to do with this file?

... so I can't seem to find the option to directly stream the audio as well

Go to Streams > Stream list
Click right mouse button (context menu) on audio stream for audio options.
Also in lower right corner can see Demux option and few other.
(However for decoding/re-encodenig audio need installed required ACM codec.)

I'm just cropping for fitting it on a DVD.
No real editing here.

I went to the Streams and saw the Stream List and right clicked it, but it was already set on Direct Stream, so I tried Full Process and still no audio in my cropped version.

Thanks for the help.

But... saved to OGM or MKV, not AVI?

Also used VirtualDubMod 1.5.10.3?

Ah I see, I didn't change the default saving settings.

Thanks,

But it appears that OGM files don't work with my mp3's converter.
Is there an easy way to convert the file?

Thanks again.

Use Avidemux - re-encode audio and save to AVI.

BTW
What's mp3's converter?

Oh, I use a Samsung mp3 player, so for me to put videos on I have to use their converter which supports .avi and converts them into .svi so I can upload it on the mp3 since the mp3 only reads .svi movies.

I'll try Avidemux tomorrow, I have to go now.

Thank you for all the help!
