Been to a few message boards but could not find a working solution ...
Need to convert this Divx 5 video into a MPEG file. When I try to de-compress the audio into a separate .WAV file (in full processing mode, no compression and sampling rate of 44.1 khz), it gives an error like "the requested audio compression is not compatible with the input format".
When I check the file information (from the "File" menu), it says that the audio stream compression is "Unknown (Tag 0055)".
I checked the file's audio properties as well - it's 2-channel with a sampling rate of 44.1 Khz.
How can I create the uncompressed .WAV file which I can then use in TMPGEnc? Any ideas on where the problem is?
I have installed Divx on my PC and the file works fine on media player ...
Thanks in advance

Why dont you load the AVI file directly into TMPEG ? It can read AVI files .. no need to decode the audio to WAV first ...

I 've experienced the same problem. I have tryed to load the AVI file directly into TMPEG. But TMEPG is unable to open the file or don't support the format. |

Sounds like your file is screwed up somewhere, probably in the audio part, if neither Virtual Dub nor TMPGEnc can process it. |

Christian,
TMPGEnc accepts the AVI file as a video source but refuses to accept it as an audio source. As a result, the output MPEG file has no audio. Any further ideas?
Ciler,
I too would tend to believe that something is wrong with the audio part. However, the file works fine (video and audio) when I run it on Media Player ... which still gives me hope!
Appreciate your help guys!

hi anicoo,
did you tried it the hard way?? there is a program called avi2wav extractor - it extract sound from AVI animation and save it to a WAV file.
But beside of that - ever tried nandub to demux your stream? Probably it's vbr-mp3 (if vdub complains at the process of loading your avi-stream you can be quite sure) and therefore you'll need nandub - I'm not really sure but did you set both ( audio and video) to direct stream copy and then tried to save as .wav??
'audio compression unknown' is as far as I know a hint to missing decompressor_but then you won't be able to hear your audio in wmp?!! - strange.
File Information of vdub is not always 100% correct - try GSpot instead and let us know about your audio thing.
give Google a shot to find both mentioned programs...

If I can find out where Avery Lee has stored it's 'old news' page, I'll quote you the part where he explains why some AVIs with VBR-MP3 works with DirectShow players but crashes when processed through Video For Windows API. So, I'm not sure that Nandub won't complain too... |

I was going to state the same ..... TMPEGenc uses Dshow to render AVIs AFAIK, so it should play fine even with VBR MP3 .. seems your file is broken somehow ...

guys
thx for all your advice.
the problem disappeared once i downloaded the Ace Mega Codecs pack. since it was working with MP, i never thought it would be the case of a missing codec. but then, seems like it was ...
anyway, both VD and TMPGEnc now work fine with the file.
but, i've now got a new problem - i'll put in a new thread.
thanks guys
