Hi, sorry if this has been asked before but I couldn't find anything when I searched.

I'm trying to follow a tutorial here:

http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/ad...subs_to_avi.cfm

But when I get to the compression selection I don't have an Xvid option to choose from in Virtual dub.

I've used the program gspot to confirm this is the codec I need.

I added subtitles to another video before, but not this one.

Can anyone help please?

Thanks for the link.

I'm still a little confused though - the video plays fine, so presumably the codec is already installed? How come I can view the movie if the codec isn't present?

codecs come in different flavours - directshow and vfw
some of these will play back other formats as well eg divx codec will decode xvid and quite a few others
virtualdub uses vfw, and you're looking for the xvid 'encoder' so that's what you want to install
