I have VirtualDub 1.6.19 and have installed ffdshow. In both VFW configuration and Video decoder, H.264 is shown as libavcodec. Yet when I try to open a video that was encoded in the H.264 format, VirtualDub says "cannot detect type of file [....\filename.mp4]." All I am trying to do is advance the audio to sync it to the video, but neither VirtualDub nor AVI_Mux will open the video. Is there a method to use that will cause these excellent freeware programs to sync the audio (AAC) to the video? |

MP4s are not AVIs. I'm afraid you will have to look for another tool.

Or use latest VirtualDub with QuickTime input plugin. Or Avisynth script > VirtualDub. (A/V recompression required)
Or alternatively - Avidemux (can open MP4 and save to MP4).
Or maybe ... Yamb (MP4Box). Can change media delay in track properties.

Dear All,
I really don't know what happen. I managed to load in mp4 from Sanyo HD1000 into virtualdub 1.78 i.e., 720p and 1090i files. It was really good.
All I did was to install the k Lite mega pack and make sure that the x264 and h264 codecs are ticked in the configuration page for ffdshow.
hope you can too.
