Hi, I have to compress some uncompressed avi files, using DivX codec in Multipass mode. I set Video->Fast recompress, and in Video->Compression I choose DivX and in its configuration dialog I set "Multipass 1st Pass".
I've already done it before a lot of times, but since now I can't do it anymore because when I try to save the avi file, Virtualdub stops with this error: Video compression error: an unknown error occurred (may be corrupt data). (error code -100)
I tried with: - various avi files (uncompressed, already compressed with divx, already compressed with a different codec) - various versions of Virtualdub (1.8.0, 1.7.8, and an old VDMod 1.5.something) - various versions of the Divx Create Codec (6.7 and 6.8) - 3 different computers (all with windows XP)
The strange thing is that the error message comes out only when I choose to compress with DivX codec, and I choose "Multipass 1st Pass" in its configuration. If I choose "1-pass" mode, it works.
Any suggestions? Is it possible, at least, to set a verbose mode to discover the meaning of this generic error?
I'm becoming mad because I made a lot of multipass divx avis with virtualdub in the past (last one was one week ago), but now I can't do it anymore.. even trying to compress movies which I successfully compressed in the past!!
Thanks. |

Go to the DivX config window, advanced button (down left) and uncheck do not prompt for errors and warnings. Maybe that will give a more useful message.

Thanks a lot.
It was a very stupid error: the directory specified in the DivX advanced configuration to save temporary files didn't exist. The error was propagating in different computers because the bad path was stored in my processing settings, which I always loaded. |
