hi!
with Onlinetvrecorder.com i recorded a tv-show,
but when i try to open it with VirtualDub to cut the commercials out
i get 2 errors.
The first error as soon as i open the file:

AVI: Stream 0 (video) has a non-zero start position of 1 samples (+40 ms).
VirtualDub does not currently support a non-zero start time and the stream will be interpreted as starting from zero

the file still opens so it might not be a big problem
but followed by a second error when i push play sad.gif

No audio decompressor could be found to decompress the source audio format.
(source tag: 0055)

So i dont have sound on that file -sigh-
I recorded things before from the source onlinetvrecorder and i didnt get an error.
Have you guys any ideas how to solve that, especially the non-sound problem ?

Many many thanks for your time

for this problem i found something in the FAQ:

QUOTE
Most likely it will be 'tag 2000', which means AC3-audio. For this you can download the AC3ACM.zip from fcchandler. If you encounter another tag you can check for example with the audio codecs list of GSpot to which codec that tag belongs.

so the GSpot link is
http://www.headbands.com/gspot/

but i cant find the audio codec list in there ?
Maybe its just me and its already a little too late for me and i should go to bed now but i cant see the list the FAQs are referring to wacko.gif

Solution = Not using virtualdub, using Windows Movie Maker instead -sigh-

Audio tag 0055 = MPEG Layer-3 (MP3)
Windows by default have Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 codec.
Semetime missing - example when users installed/deinstalled some codec packs.

Use internal audio decoder in latest VirtualDub 1.7.X or VirtualDubMod.

VirtualDub 1.7.X
Options > Preferences... > AVI > Prefer internal audio decoders over installed third-party codecs

VirtualDubMod
Options > Preferences... > VDubMod > Audio > Priss rocks!

Of course You can search net for Fraunhofer codec.

VitualDub require and used ACM codecs for audio.
Windows Movie Maker used DirectShow filters.

What is info about this file from GSpot?
Any sample file?

Thank you for your time Placio

i downloaded GSpot and i think it sais everything is okay
http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/2927/gspotml0.png

i went to Options > Preferences... > AVI > Prefer internal audio decoders over installed third-party codec
but still i get the error

i downloaded ACM and installed it but still i get the 0055 error

i downloaded lame mp3 397 but im not really sure how to install or what to do with it. Besides that i thought i may already have that because i used that codec in "EAC" (exact audio copy) a couple of times before

edit:
Oh now i downloaded virtualdubmod and did that priss rocks step and i actualy have audio. im back soon to give more info

Hmm... GSpot sometime 'say' OK (codecs installed...) but it's not always true.

Well, it's not always work...

L3codeca.acm?

It's Lame MP3 ACM codec?
Just unpack to some folder and use Install option from context menu (right mouse button) on .inf file.
But, i'm afraid... Lame ACM can encode, but can't decode (maybe i'm wrong).

You have L3codeca.acm in \Windows\system32 folder?

You have msacm.l3acm=l3codeca.acm in registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32
?

You can play MP3 files (not in movies, just music) in WMP (it's used 'directly' ACM codec for MP3).

System Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices > Hardware > Audio Codecs > Properties > Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 Codec is here?

Maybe provide (example on http://kotuha.com) small sample file (You can cut in VD used Direct stream copy mode).

Hmm... i'm don't know - what other audio codec can use instead system Fraunhofer codec (for decode MP3 in VirtualDub)? I'm not find at this moment.
