OK, I'm currently using ffdshow as it's the only one that could open all my avis with no trouble at all and the video quality is very good. But I can't open any file with VirtualDub, I get the following message:

"Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'XVID' (unknown)

VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable."

Where can I get such codecs?

Thanks.

usually a VFW component comes with ffdshow, so you can use that. If you are sure you installed the VFW component, go to start --> programs --> ffdshow --> VFW configuration and enable it from there.

The VFW component is installed by default by that version of ffdshow. You can configure the settings in the place where i pointed at. (choose the decoder tab)

For a time ago I found VFW configuration below ffdshow in the Start menu, but when I try to klick on it a error message appeard. I have now uninstalld ffdshow and installd it again.
When I installd ffdshow appeard any error message who say that it wasnīt possible to overwrite a stated file or anything like that..

Now after this, I canīt find VFW configuration on the place I do before.
Is it ffdshow I shall write about or shall I write about VirtualDub?

Thanks, Woodpecker

Im actually confused to.. I had just now not the possibility to change any settings under windows start button --> programs --> ffdshow --> VFW configuration . I can go through the three first steps but the fourth step, "VFW configuration", doesnīt exist in my meny.
The fourth step existed before I reinstall ffdshow but now it doesnīt.

Just now I donīt know if VFW is set to enable, can I control that anywhere?

Hi!
I got a couple of questions about DivX 6.
What is the difference between shaping and masking psychovisual enhancement?
During the first pass which compression/quality mode should I use?
Is there any reason to use quarter pixels, since you can't use any high compression modes when that's enabled?

It should be an option in the installer...

No idea, you could read the DivX guide about it.

Balanced is ok.

Nope, no reason at all.
