Hello. I'm new here and I hope, that someone may help me.
I get some .avi files and tried to bring them in an .mpg form.
Normaly I used TMPGEnc and when I had audio Problems I used Virtualdub.
Normaly everythig works.
But now TMPGEnc can't find the audio part and in Virtualdub I get the following message:

The requested audio compression is not compatible with the input format. Check that the sampling rate and the channel count of the input match thoose of the requested format.

I don't know which audio format the .avi file has and what I have to do to get a working file.
Thanks for helping me.

Hello.

In VirtualDub, what does File->Information tell you about the audio?

There are:
Sampling rate 48000 Hz
Chanels 5(Stereo)
Sample precision 0-bit
Compression unknown(Tag 2000)
Preload skew 28000 samples (0,58s)
# of frames 102454
min/avg/max/total frame size 1120/2240/28000(224143k)

It's may be the tag 2000??

2000 is AC3 (Dolby Digital)
Extract the wav with VirtualDub (save wav) and cut off the wav-header in a hexeditor (the first 44 Bytes). Save the file as .ac3 and recompress it to .mp2 with HeadAc3he. In TMPGEnc you only encode the video first and then mux it toghether with mp2 created with HeadAc3he.

Instead of cutting off the First 44 bytes you can just use a Program called "AC3 Fix" which will rewrite the Header to a Real AC3 file...

I have the same problem!! It's typical for movies that are in two big files of 700MB ie. Die Another Day. I can easily view it on computer but when I want to transform it to SVCD the sound is not detected both in Virtual Dub and TMPG Enc!!
I cannot save the sound to wav file because it gives me:

"Check that the sampling rate and the channel count of the input match thoose of the requested format."

I'm also writing file info:

Sampling rate 48000 Hz
Chanels 2(Stereo)
Sample precision 0-bit
Compression unknown(Tag 2000)
Preload skew 1536 samples (0,03s)
# of frames 62756
min/avg/max/total frame size 845/1536/1536(94134k)

I also tried to use AC3 Fix ver0.3 but I don't now how to use it. I wrote ac3fix filename.avi filename.ac3 he created this file ac3 but also VD and TMPG don't recognize them!!

I also have hex editor always in read only mode!!
I have VD ver 1.4.13

PLEASE HELP!!!

Actually You not need to cut first 44 bytes etc. Just audio--> direct stream copy, file--> save wav, give name. After that rename saved file *.ac3, and there is a freeware http://www.mpegnews.com/download.asp?url=h...r_v0.4_beta.zip , with that convert file, and then video--> direct stream copy, audio--> wav audio, select compression for audio and save as avi. Thats it. File will be ~150 Mb smaller.

Please do not mention things that are obviously pirate like this. This forum tries to stay fully legal and that is why discussion about Divx 3 is verboten. Even Xvid of which it is possible for limited binaries to legaly exist is generally avoided in discussion to avoid conflict. If you must mention something just say "a movie". Don't convict yourself of wrong doing and all will be kosher.
