yah it's like divx... does some of the same things... share some of the same code.
But will it handle interlaced divx5?

Who cares. At this point, DivX sucks. tongue.gif

[EDIT]
I didn't mean to sound anti-DivX. DivX 5.02 is a great codec and I still use it a lot and I highly recommend it. What I meant to say is that the new DivX 5.03 version sucks.

I dont understand why people think that divx503 sucks. i encoded the matrix with divx502 and 503 and i was really surprised because 503 looked a lot better...

I think you've been lucky so far. Many people have reported crashes and bugs with 5.03. I only used it for a week, and I saw a couple of really serious bugs which IMHO make the codec unreliable for general use. However, I've been using 5.02 for over a year; it has some minor bugs but they are easy to work around.

Back to the original topic: What's your impression of XviD?

I was driven to trying out Xvid because of DivX 5's constant crashing(5.02 and 5.03). I also like the many more options Xvid offers over DivX 5.

Now, if only the legal issues could be settled dry.gif
