I have a I6 Processor an 6 - 8 RAM
a built in intel Graphics card
I'm really trying to make an animation from Apophysis with the aphymator scripts and putting it all together wqith viretual dub

My problem.. when I load the .png files in virtualdub. the become very grainy and look like they are only 16 colors.. and the png files I made.. have many more colors.

Everyone has told me that I need to use the xvid or divix codecs.. of wich neither work.. as a matter of fact.. I go through the 8-10 codecs there and see NO CHANGE at all.. do I have to do something else to get the codec to work?

The animation I'm trying to make looks GREAT in Windows Movie maker.. but for some strange reason it wont save to disk, or I would just use that..

I get the same sort of Graininess and loss of color when I load the .png graphic files in camtasia studio also

I'm jelous because I see A LOT of animations made with Apophysis, Aphymater script and virtualdub .. but it wont work for me.. and I have so many flames waiting.. In a months time I could make about 20 videos easy...!!

I think that H.264 is a lot better than DivX/Xvid => http://sourceforge.net/projects/x264vfw/

If size isn't a concern use the best available then i would agree with ale5000. If file size is an issue then use xvid.

A problem with you system codecs ! could be broken os avi filters, something changed or deleted from the registry maybe ! A codec filter manager may help to see if all is ok or not.

Could you post a sample PNG file with the problem? Codecs don't matter when just opening the files in VirtualDub. What's especially strange is that you are seeing the same problem in Camtasia Studio, since the two programs definitely don't use the same PNG reading code. That implies that the problem may actually be with the video drivers.
