Hi guys, I am trying to compress a video I took from a pc game, via Virtual Dub, using the codec DivX 6.9.2 Codec (4 Logical CPUs)that I downloaded from the free pack on the main divx.com page. At first, the video I compressed came out great. But everytime now that I try to use it before compressing a video it gives me this error:
Video compression error: The source image format is not acceptable. (error code -2).
I now have to use xvid mpeg 4 codec, which is fine and all, but the divx one I downloaded compressed much more betterific (thats right I just made up a word). I am saving as AVI all the time, the video I am compressing is from FRAPS. Again, I did this once and it worked, but now it gives me the above error. Help?
Thanks for taking the time to read my post friends.
Also, someone on these boards solved the problem, however, when I got this error yet again after I "fixed" it, I came back to the old forum post I made (I booked marked it) and it was either deleted or move, and I cant find it via the search tool. |

That would probably be one of these problems
The width and height are not multiples of 4 The fps is larger than the one allowed in the divx profile selected
You can either 1) change the selected divx profile 2) resize , crop or reduce-fps of the video - depending on what's wrong
If you use firefox theres a nice addon called scrapbook that lets you save/edit pages so you can read them if the sites offline, or the page has gone

Funnily enough I've recently changed from using divx to xvid After updating my pc from a dual core, I've found that divx blocks (slows down) horribly when another core is running at 100%
I use the xvid cvs version here http://www.xvidvideo.ru/xvid-video-codec/x...tk-x86-x64.html
After changing to ffdshow(in the vfw config set divx, xvid, generic mpeg4 to xvid) as the decoder and xvid as the encoder, I get the same quality at about twice the speed

For me the quality is fair to poor when I have used DivX for the same or slightly higher bitrate of quality settings I had used in Xvid. A 700kbps Xvid looked better than a 1000Kbps Divx.
Whenever I had tried DivX I would get major blocking and jumbled dots as a result. Never got this with Xvid.
Speed is a bit better with Xvid, on my computer at least. |

You do only get the best out of divx when you buy a serial - then you can use the better quality modes
That said, it seems to be a 50/50 on quality Some people like the results with divx, others xvid
You see a lot of 'it's too smooth', and 'it's not smooth enough' Like apples and oranges, pick the one you like :-)
