Do I need to uninstall QT alternative before installing the full quicktime program? I haven't seen this mentioned. |

I suppose it won't hurt.

Why would you want to install QuickTime? |

This is needed to open certain mp4 and mov files into Vdub. The error from the top of my head is "quicktime_InitializeFailure" or a "cannot set something HR:xxxxxxxx"
I've tried the DS filter, FFDshow and through avisynth's directshowsource and I have not yet been successful in loading certain types of mp4 or mov files.
From past and current readings from other forums and here it seems that QT has to be installed because it contains the decoder needed. One would think that QT alternative would suffice but it doesn't.
I've tried Tateu's filter and the quicktime one with the ini file and that doesn't seem to be enough.
Vegas opens these files with no problem however. I don't know what Vegas is using under the hood but Vegas loads them in fine.
I don't want to install QT at all. I'm hearing that QT has gotten better without it taking over and controlling things but I'm still hesitant to install it just for one thing. |

Believe me, I understand you. But at this moment I'm afraid you will have to.
I had problems with audio running QT-Alternative. In general, QT-Alt is OK for those who need to only play/watch MOV files. But when it comes to frame-accurate editing of video&audio... something seems to be incapable of doing the whole job perfect there. |
