I downloaded two versions of Dirac: One with and without an installer

Each came with the splitter.ax file, encoder and decoder dll files. The installer version hangs after you click yes/no for all users to have access so I wasn't sure if the package installed correctly? I then used revouninstaller to remove the Dirac install and even the dialog for the uninstaller hung. I had to use taskmanager to kill it.

None of the versions seemed to work even the one that didn't include the installer. The instructions said to put the files into the program files directory and do the regsvr32 bit, which I did but something didn't take after successfully registering the activeX file. I then unregistered it and moved the Dirac folder to System32 directory, thinking that's normally where these file go, and couldn't register the activeX file.

The dll files wouldn't register so I thought maybe all that was needed was registering the activeX file only.

The installer version of Dirac puts the files in program files directory and the registry entry for environment reflects this.

Is something else needed besides the Dirac files to encode and decode in this format? I downloaded one of the test files, all demo files were in .ts format, mpeg2 if I remember right? Do I need Dirac in AVI instead to work? Dirac is said to work in AVI, Ogg, MKV but I didn't see .ts, I'm confused now. wacko.gif

I noticed ffdshow doesn't have an entry for dirac, nor does mpc-hc player.

I want to see how Dirac compares with other formats. I'm playing around again with different formats. I've heard that "snow" is pretty decent yet I can't find a place to get this.

Maybe this is an omen, maybe I should just stick with what I know, lol.
