Vfw-compatible Codec?

I jut got the program and as soon as I try to open an avi file, this shows up

I don't know what's wrong. I've installed WMV9 for the program and it didn't work. I also installed XviD and that didn't work either. I do not use Windows Media Player. I don't know if only this video is the issue because it's the only avi file on my computer as of right now. I doubt that this hasn't been an issue before but I can't find anything in search. Thank you for your help.

Install ffdshow (http://www.free-codecs.com/FFDShow_download.htm) go to start -> ffdshow -> vfw configuration and switch the wmv entries from disabled to libavcodec
