My old DivX installation of DivX was 6.8.5 on WinXP+Sp3

Then I deinstalled DivX 6.8.5. and installed v7.2.0

I rebooted WinXP, then started VD v1.9.7 and loaded an *.avi video which I planned to re-encode.

When I enable now video->Full processing mode
and go to menu

view->Compression...

then there is still the old codec listed:

DivX 6.8.5 Codec
and
DivX 6.8.5 YV12 Decoder

So why is it not replaced by the new version?

I found no DivX 7.2.0 entry as expected

How do I get rid of the old version and enable the new one in VD?

Matt

DivX Inc. change version number (to 7) of DivX Bundle 'package' when added H.264 DirectShow decoder (also AAC and splitter for Matroska) and updated DivX Converter (can convert to MKV with AVC/AAC).

However DivX VfW codec remained unchanged (same as before).

DivX Bundle 'package' 7, 7.1, 7.2 and 7.2.1 contain DivX VfW codec 6.8.5.

Latest DivX Bundle 'package' (7.2.1.1) contain DivX VfW codec 6.9.1, but version number in codec has not been changed (probably someone forgot).

From DivX VfW codec 6.9.1 changelog:
QUOTE
   Improvements:

   * Native support of 64-bit player applications in 64-bit operating systems
   * Improved playback performance on many platforms

   Fixes:

   * Improved aspect ratio handling and support
   * Increased decoder stability
   * Improved media player compatibility

Hmm.

As far as I know DivX 7.x introduced H.264 as a new codec.

When I go now to menu

view->Compression...

and open the DivX Configuration and the "View" tab
then in the drop down box "Quantization" are listed (only):
H.263
H.263 Optimized
MPEG-2
MPEG-2 Custom

but NO H.264 or MPEG-4

Why?

DivX VfW remains as MPEG-4 ASP codec.

DivX H.264 Codec (MPEG-4 AVC) is not available as VfW codec - only command line encoder. Can not be used in VfW based apps (VirtualDub).

So is there any other codec which offers for VD an H.264 VfW codec?

What about Xvid?
