Audio Compression Unknown Tag 0055?, Problem since Nimo Codec Install

Installed Nimo Codec to get AC3 audio working - had problems with this install so uninstalled it and went to divxmovies.com for the AC3 audio codec.

Now Virtual Dub does not recognize any audio compression, when it was working fine before. I get Audio Compression Unknown (Tag 0055).

I tried system restore and reinstalling virtual dub but to no avail as the problem remains.

FYI, Windows Media Player, Power DVD etc all work and AC3 audio is now supported also, although only works good on Power DVD player as video/audio plays half speed on Windows Media Player. So all my audio codecs appear ok...

Any help would be much appreciated. I've wasted more than a couple of hours on this and its 2:00AM and my brain is shutting down. Thanks in advance to any Gurus out there.

Windows Mediaplayer is using DirectShow filters for playback, Vdub uses VfW ( video ) and ACM ( audio ) codecs for en/decoding ... maybe NIMO screwed up those on deinstalling ?

Thanks! Based on your hint I double checked and it turns out when I deinstalled NIMO, it removed the Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer 3 Codec, even though control panel/sounds and audio devices/hardware/audio codecs/properties (Windows XP) showed it was there. I reinstalled (repair install) Ulead Video Studio 6 which had the driver and now everything works fine again!

There is something buggy about the Nimo Codec downloads, some of the download sites do not have all the build codecs - makes me wonder what else is wrong with them. Beware!
