When i open a mvk file to convert it in avi format, wirtualdubmod say:

[!] MKV: The video may have a variable framerate. If so we strongly advise you
to use another tool to safely process your file.

[!] Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'ÿÿÿÿ' (unknown).
VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to
decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media
Player, are not suitable. Only 'Direct stream copy' is available for this
video.

i've installed matrovska codec, vfm codec but...

Any idea to help me?

Thanks

I think you need the Real codec. Or it´s alternative.

you cant edit realvideo mkv files in VirtualDubMod, there is no VFW codec for it.

I also have a similar problem trying to convert MKV to AVI. Virtualdub Mod loads the file correctly. I can extract the AC3 audio correctly from the streams menu. I can watch the film using Media Player 9. Virtualdub Mod shows a problem decompressing frame 0 and says the file may be corrupt and the main window doesn't show any video and I can't convert the film to any other format. Is this a codec problem?

Okay solved the problem I don't know what it was Gspot gave me a partial render problem. So I suspected a codec conflict. I uninstalled all my codecs reinstalled them got the latest version of fdshow dated October 2004. The full matroska pack from www.matroska.org and everything started to work ok but the AVI produced had no sound. I converted the AC3 audio to MP2 using besweet. Converted the AVI to MPG using TMPGENC and muxed the MP2 sound.

Sorry to answer the question above no it wasn't converting to AVI
