Hi guys' I'm new to this forum biggrin.gif

I have an idea regarding DSC mode and like to know if it might be possible to implement it into VD.

Often when recutting some avi files I had to cut out some parts (usually just a few frames).

Generally, when cutting some section out of the video in Direct Stream Copy mode you have to take care that after the end of that selection there is a keyframe so the decompressor will be able to decode that frame. If there is none, VD corrects the start of the second part to the next keyframe.

Since I don't want to lose much quality, I use to recompress just those few frames manually in full compression mode and then join all parts together in DSC but this is no nice job especially if you cut in different places.

So might it be possible to implement some new kind of Direct Stream Copy mode which uses DSC whenever possible and just recompresses those few frames which need to?
I guess DSC will need some info about the codec now while it just made a binary copy of the video stream before without caring 'bout the codec, right?

Most definitely possible -- it's known as "smart rendering" in NLE programs. I just haven't implemented it yet.

Fine to read this smile.gif

I'll be glad if you'll find the time to implement it into one of the next versions smile.gif
