I'am a longtime user of virtual dub, and now i registerd, cause i hope to get some ideas or other solutions for my problem

When i used vdub under my 32bit WinXP i never thought about the "how does the pic came into the programm" point
but now i changed to Win7x64 and my first thought not again a x64 problem
--- the only thing i can see in screencapture-mode is my mouse pointer

i tried it out on 3 Win7 PCs - but i read more and more and came to the conclusion it is a Win7/Vista problem that not only my system has - the system is - i would say clean (no codecs, only one mediaplayer and all the standard Win7Codecs)

so i found this 2 relevant threads:
Regarding Vista/7 Screen Capture Changes
http://forums.virtualdub.org/index.php?act...89&hl=windows+7
Game Capturing = Black Screen
http://forums.virtualdub.org/index.php?act...f=2&t=15472&hl=

and asked myself, what are the solutions now
- i found by myself VH ScreenCap(32bit) to solve it - i dont know if it makes a real performance difference, but it works with 1.9.11(32bit)-vdubversion

some time passed since this problems, but there seems still no concrete solution
- why can other ScreenCapturing programs capture the screen with this "WDDM" (like HyperCam, Camstudioo etc.) and why vdub not? (maybe i dont understand the programstructure to understand it completely - than sorry vor this question)
- are there other solutions to use "Screen Capture" under the "Capture Avi" Option? or only this one i tried with VHScreenCap?

and no - i dont want to use any other capture programm, they are all not what i want, i figured out in the past

thanks for some responds

When in capture mode, select the video menu->source
Untick Use OpenGL, and see if that helps

ok i read and tried different things the last days:

first yes these disabeling OpenGL Option "works", BUT:

- if i chose a "Custom Format" without the option "Rescale from larger Area" (under Source), i have only this specific area in real resolution, but i want a rescaled fullscreenarea smaller than my Full deskopt Size

- when i chose a "Custom Format" bigger than 1024x768 my mouse starts to flicker - its only on the desktop, not e.g. ingame

- if i disable OpenGL, Vdub freezes instantly after pressing "Start Capture" and i have to close it with the Taskmanager
--- in some rare moments, hammering the keaboard with vdub key bounded options (like F10) i can enter the programm and stop the capturing
--- sometimes it minimizes itself .. and is never seen again, till i close it via taskmanger
--- this freezing came in 1.9.11-x86/ -x64 and 1.10.00-x64 also when i use ffdshows Huffyuv as compression (for not so big filesize)

- when i use OpenGL it also records fine my desktop sound, is it disabled i donno, cause the programm freezes instantly

some days later:
i installed it on another Win7x64 System, its a notebook with complete different Hardware:
- i disable openGL and use "Screen Capture" - same problems here
--- i use the same preferences on both systems, nothing special installed, they have both a nearly clean install and have a comparable performance (out of graphics, pc is better)

==================
Questions:
- is the solution for the resolution problem, that i capture the complete area and have to rescale the size via Windows Screenresolution?
example: i normally use 1680x1050 - vdub rescaled on XP via source to 1280x800 -
now i have to use 1280x800 so that i get a smaller resolution
- only other solution is rescaling in a video editing software?
------------these questions are relevant if it would work

sincerely

TBH I'm not the best to help you with this

It works fine here, but I rarely use it
Most seem to capture using a program that's more dedicated to the task, like fraps or camtasia

I use fraps for gameplay and camtasia for screencapture.
They are the better options.

The rescaling options are not available when OpenGL mode is disabled as without it there is no hardware acceleration support to do the rescaling. You can do the rescaling through the filter chain but this will be done on the CPU. The reason for OpenGL mode not working starting with Windows Vista is due to a change in the Windows video driver architecture that makes it impossible; this functionality will not be able to return functionally until Windows 8 ships with WDDM 1.2.
