Kinda hard to understand why this happens...

I use a Dazzle DV-80 and VDub to capture..for the most part it works fine. I capture the TV signal through the VCR and can record fine. Everything in Sync. I then put a tape in the VCR (Latest tries with my Soprano collection. Store bought tapes pre-viewed from Blockbuster) and sometimes the VHS tape capture will be in sync and somtimes not. Actually more times then not. I then again try capture from the TV signal through VCR and again it's in sync. Tape back in..out of sync...so at the least I have to conclude that it is something to do with the VHS.....how and what do I do to finally get my tapes in sync when I capture from VHS tapes. If it is in sync when it comes through the TV signal through the VCR..why won't it sync when doing video tapes? Any help and answers appreciated.

- which version of vdub do you use?? - did you try VirtualDub_sync by Andreas Dittrich ( http://www-user.rhrk.uni-kl.de/~dittrich/sync/ )??

- which audio compression is used??

- what about your resolution??

- did you turn on 'lock video stream to audio'?

- what about your dropped frames during vhs-recording??

and so on...

cheers Sill

QUOTE (SillKotscha @ Sep 4 2002, 06:04 AM)
Thanks much for reply and willingness to help me try and figure this out!

- which version of vdub do you use??

The latest 1.4.10

- did you try VirtualDub_sync by Andreas Dittrich??

I hadn't until your suggestion. Unfortunately it made the tape sync worse then before.

- which audio compression is used??

MPEG-Layer 3 40 kbit/s 16,000 hz stereo 4kb/sec

- what about your resolution??

320x240

- did you turn on 'lock video stream to audio'?

Yes

- what about your dropped frames during vhs-recording??

A little less then 10%

I've tested further and remain baffled. Even with the same settings and conditions, the tape remains off sync yet the capture right from the VCR signal is in perfect sync.....Not enough hair left on my head for this one! smile.gif
Thanks again.

Well that seems a lot of frames to me.Maybe that's what causing the asynch. What codec do you use for capture?Maybe you should try smth less cpu intensive. And maybe you shouldn't encode the audio in mp3,just encode it after the capture.
