Recording Timers?

I have used Virtualdub to directly record from my satellite dish receiver (s-video in) into a divx format (works well but audio is desync'd, still working on that part of it..). Anyway, is there a way to set a timer like a vcr to record from (for example) 2am-2:30am like this? A tuner/channel changer isn't needed since the channel is determined by the satellite receiver, I just need a timer to record the s-video in.

Or should I be looking for different software? I've look at powervcr but it records in mpg I think. Its the only one I could find with a timer. I'd really like to record different times at different compression levels directly to divx. Any ideas? Thanks.

Not sure of it's current status but try http://www.virtualdub.net Even if you don't read german(even though many here do) you should be able to find it. This guy has got a version of Virtualdub with a working program timer and even basic channel change support for a few cards. I have used it myself on manny occasions. wub.gif ph34r.gif

hi Neo Neko,

my post was linking to the FAQ - within this FAQ the vdub-timer/vcr is mentioned...

but you are a nice guy and gave him the direct link wub.gif

thank you... I don't read german so the page describing how to use the app from the FAQ is beyond me, but I did get the app and tried out the timers.

You can't change compression/resolution settings on a per event basis, but this is definitely a start.

Has anyone combined it with virtualdub sync so I could get both timers and sync'd audio?

Even if it's not the place here...

There are many others tools than Virtual Dub to do some caputre, even some that have timer and can achieve better synch.
Have some search with our friend Google about "FreeVCR".

I've not said that, you've not seen me ph34r.gif

Thankyou for the tip on freevcr, but as far as I can tell it doesn't have multiple timers (or I just don't understand how to program multiple event timers).

I've tried the powervcr program but it only does mpg (much larger files than what I want), and I just tried CapTV which can capture with compressed AVI, nice app (freeware v2) but desynced audio and other anomalies. Any one know of others? So far I think virtualdubvcr appears good but I haven't tested it extensively and I don't know if I trust it yet.

Hi there, have you tried using this program in conjunction with Virtual Dub:

"VirtualDub capture starter 1.5", use Google to find it.

hope that is helpful
