Hi Dolemite,
welcome to our board.
Unfortunately i never ever played with subs, but as we all know AVI was never designed to have subtitles, so its only logical that hacks cause problems ...

I have some experience with subtitles. English isn't my native, so I often use subtitles, translated or english (they are helpful too).
VobSub is actually package, which installs subtitles filter for VirtualDub, activeX filter for viewing of movies (I use WMP) and some utilites for editing subtitles.
vobsub.dll is necessary for proper work of VobSub and is used by both filters above. So if you have error messages regarding vobsub.dll, something went wrong with VobSub installation and vobsub.dll isn't available. Try to uninstall VobSub, restart computer and install VobSub again.
You can use VobSub filter for VD to insert subtitres to video during recoding (they should be in ssa format). Then these titles will be coded directly to video.
I prefer not to code titles directly to video but use VobSub active filter. It's loaded if movie has also subtitles file(s). In case of multiply title files one can switch between different languages of just turn subtitles off. This way has obvious advantages in more flexibility. Disadvantages - player must support subtitle files or/and VobSub active filter must be installed. |
