Hi,
I hope I have this in the correct forum (if not, apologies in advance).
I have encountered a couple of things that, while I won't quite call them "bugs," seem a little strange to me.
W2K, 1 GB RAM, 1.4.11
First. if I want to put .wav audio in an .avi, Virtualdub will not do it in combination with other things (like deleting a section of video). In other words, I have a (completely uncompressed .avi). I want to remove part of it and replace the sound, saving it to another .avi (without any other processing). Virtualdub will not do this in one step (if I try, I get no sound at all), but it works fine if I save the .avi (and, of course, I don't like saving "intermediate .avis), and then replace the sound as a separate step.
Second, some problem exists capturing when re-entering capture mode. If I exit the program (start it right before my capture), then everything works fine (I get between two and five dropped frames per hour, which I guess comes from thermal recalibration of the hard drive). However, if I capture some video, and then attempt to capture more without exiting virtualdub, virtualdub takes a few seconds to start capturing (displaying a "status 502" message that I never see any other time), and drops about sixty frames in the first ten seconds (and continues to drop frames at a much higher rate than usual. It seems like something doesn't get reset.
I hope I wrote those well enough for you to understand. Feel free to ask me any questions you have. Thank you for your help in supporting this wonderful program. |

Re: first question As mentioned in another thread, Avisynth can do many wonderful things to an AVI without the need to create intermediate files.
Re: second question I have a similar bug. I can do multiple captures for hours at a time, as long as I stay in capture mode. But if I exit VirtualDub and go do other things, then come back and try to capture again, I sometimes see the "status 502" message, and it will drop frames badly or even hang the system. It doesn't always happen, but just to be safe I always reboot before starting any big capturing session. (Blame it on buggy drivers.)

And (shameless plug ) VirtualDubMod makes working with avisynth much easier, even more so the new version bound to be out tomorrow (just to get your mouth watery )
