I captured a video with virtualdub 1.5.4 and compressed it in divx5.05 while capturing. I can view it now in windows media player. If i want to open it with virtualdub an error message occours.

Couldn´t locate decompressor for format "DX50"(unknown)

VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codex to decompress video. DirektShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media PLayer, are not suitable.

what can i do?

Are you running Win9x? If so, check the file C:\Windows\System.ini and take a look at the [drivers32] section at the bottom. What's in there?

For NT/2K/XP, look in the registry in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32

In the key I specified above, you should have a value:
vidc.DIVX with value DivX.dll.
There shouldn't be one for vidx.DX50.

Post a list of everything in that key. There might be some other codec hijacking the DX50 fourcc. (The GT Camera codec, I believe, does this).
