So I recently bought a Creative Vado HD and I want to use virtual dub to do some processing on the videos before I edit them.

I finally got the video to import after installing the KLite video codec package and FFDshow - however it wont play the sound. I get the error:

"No audio decompressor could be found to decompress the source audio format. (Source format tag: fffe)"

So I can play the video but there is no sound, and when I export as avi, there is also no sound, I've tried both processed and direct stream.

Any Ideas?

The file format is Mp4. Gspot gives me the following info:

Codec: mp4a: MPEG-4 AAC LC
Info: 48000Hz 128 kb/s tot , stereo (2/0)

What say MediaInfo about the file?

Do you use the Quicktime input plugin or the MP4 input plugin to open it?

There are many ways but the best one is remux the file to .mkv with MKVtoolnix (it is fast and there is NO loss in quality).
After this you can open it in VirtualDub with the Matroska input plugin that works perfectly.

For your file you need H.264 enabled in the vfw configuration of ffdshow-tryout and the AAC ACM codec.

Thanks, I'll give that a go. So no real way of just opening the mp4 in vdub straight up?

The Quicktime input plugin may work but it has its own problems.
The Directshow plugin may also works but a specific plugin works better (expecially with H.264 video).

In particual, the input plugins by fcchandler works generally better.
