Just started using VirtualDub, and just started using my new ATI Radeon 8500 DV capture card. The only video files I can open successfully with VirtualDub are those that I've captured in MPEG-1 format. Files encoded in other modes produce the erorr: MPEG Import Filter: pack synchronization error I even see the same error when using VirtualDub to open an MPEG-2 file on an SVCD I borrowed from a friend (which would seem to be in a 'proper' format, since it plays successfully on my DVD player). Are there additional components I need to obtain (besides those included in the VirtualDub distribution) in order to handle a broader range of file types? Thanks for any help

Well, first of all, Vdub doesn´t support Mpeg2, you should use instead VirtualdubMpeg2 which is a MOD(ification) and supports this format. Have you ever tried using Huffyuv to compress your captures?

VirtualDub supports AVI and MPEG1 only.

Thank you for your replies, and for pointing out that Vdub has no Mpeg2 support. Perhaps I didn't read the documentation thoroughly enough before making some of my assumptions. I'll check into Huffyuv, which I haven't heard of before; I've just begun delving into the world of video capture, edit, etc. Thanks again for your help, Bruce
