Hello!!
I have an mkv video in HD that i would like to convert to avi. I have no problems with that except that i don't know how to hardsub de avi file with a subtitle that is already muxed in the source file (the mkv). Is there an option or a filter to do that? Thanks!!

Honestly, I have no experience with subtitles in MKV, but maybe the thread via hyperlink below can be of interest to you.
It says, that when the Haali splitter is being using for opening the MKV via VirtualDub, you should be able to activate/deactivate decoding of subtitles.
When the option is ON, you should have the subtitles into the AVI after you have done the compression/encoding to the resulting file.

See ALbino's end remark in this thread (the problem for the other one, can be a solution for you...):

You must first extract the subtitles track from the mkv, with mkvextract (provided with mkvtoolnix). Warning : If your track is SSA, you'll loose eventualy the specifics embemded fonts if you don't have them installed in your OS.
Then, retrieve VSFilter here : http://xhmikosr.1f0.de/mpc-hc/mpc-hc_apps/vsfilter/
Install it, and from install directory copy the vsfilter.dll into VDub pluggin directory, then rename it vsfilter.vdf.
Now, in VDub filters, you have filters to handle subtitles, they'll be added to your file during your process.
