| Hello, I have a ImpactVCB 1381 Analog capture device by Hauppauge. I just updated from their model 558 board as it stopped working on windows 7. I had been capturing my old VHS tapes onto my computer and saving them onto a external hard drive in AVI format (so I could throw away the VHS tapes and have a DVD and hard copy). Upon upgrading, I found that wintv7 does not record in AVI format like wintv2000, and I downloaded virtualdub as it works with my capture device. Unfortunately I have to re-learn how to do things, and some help would be appreciated! 1. I have found when I capture video, the resulting file is HUGE. Way larger than when I used wintv2000 to capture. I am ok with my files being 10GB-30GB, as I save them onto a 3TB Hardrive. But is there an appropriate default setting I should set my video capture to? The documentation is confusing. 2. I installed an Xvid codec for compression, but I wasn't sure if I use this as i am capturing video, or use it when I am saving the AVI file. When I am in capture mode, do I set the compression to Xvid M-PEG 4? The first time I did this the audio did not line up properly, so I set the audio compression to M-PEG layer 3. But I get a weird double video that doesn't play properly until I choose save as AVI and save the file. The program also crashes when I tell it to stop capture, and upon restarting it tells me, ""reconstruct missing index block." 3. When saving, do I choose "direct stream copy" "Full recompress"? It defaults to "Full processing mode" which sounds like it would be a problem if i am saving an hours worth of home video. |
