You guys have probably seen this topic an number of times, but i'm new here and couldnt find a thread that helps.

At the moment i'm digitising old VHS tapes and using VirtualDub 1.10.4 with my Elgato video capture. Everything is working wonderful, but after everything is recorded the audio is out of sync. It's strange because when the VHS is being recorded in vDub i have "enabled audio playback" and it's perfect. So my question is do anyone have any ideas why this is happening and how to fix it?

Assuming the async is the same throughout, get the adjustment value by playing the file in VLC or MPC.
Use the J K keys (VLC) or + - (MPC Num Pad) to adjust the delay until it syncs.
Note the value in milliseconds.
Open the file in VirtualDub.
Set Video > Direct stream copy.
Audio > Interleaving and insert the value in 'Skew'.
Save the video.

I dont know if its because its a VHS tape but i have variable fps and i still cant get it to sync up. also any idea why i cant see the video in premier?

I don't know anything about analog capture, but... if you are going to edit in Premiere, fixing the audio sync will be easy, once you get it imported. You might have to transcode the video into another format before Premiere will accept it, though.

Please tell us more about your video by posting a MediaInfo report:
  • Get http://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo and run it.
  • Drag file on to MediaInfo window; a report is created.
  • Select View=Text
  • Right click, select all
  • Right click, copy
  • Paste the report in your reply.
  • Please wrap the report in [CODE]...[/CODE] - it http://www.bbcode.org/examples/?id=15.
  • Optional: "X" out any personal info before posting.

I'm sure vlc used to now some years ago. Report the sync via Tools - Messages with verbosity 2 or other. Just checked it doesn't seem to do that now. It would update while playing so could see the audio sync if changed. I used to use that to know the sync to adjust mpeg2 videos with another editor (pre ffmpeg input driver for virtualdub) before watching xvid, x264 videos
