Sorry if this has been discussed already, but i've had a search on these forums, and google, and i can't seem to find an anwser.

Basically, VirtualDub detects my capture car, tells me it is connected but doesn't give me a prievew. When i try to record with it it tells me "Unable to start the capture,". Now, my capture card is working in Windows Movie Maker, and Camtasia, but not here. I want to use VirtualDub to capture because of the amount of control you have over audio and video. I have tried other programs but they are all useless, i have also tried a few versions of VirtualDub but neither of them woreked. Also, i have recorded using VirtualDub before with no problems. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

What capture card do you have?

Does VirtualDub give any reason for not wanting to start the capture?

Are you using compression?

I've tried a number of different compression methods, right now im on Xvid and PCM, VirtualDub doesn't give me a reason, and im using ADS Video Xpress, which has worked before for me.

Have you tried uncompressed?

If I had to take a guess it would be that the card is feeding VirtualDub already compressed frames.

Also try if you can fiddle around in the capture pin and filter settings (video menu).

Try turning off overlay in the video menu to see if the preview works.
