All you need is a video input. Either you use the Video-In of your TV- Capture device or Video-In of your graphic accelerator (e.g.: of ASUS or ATI).You’ll receive a better input signal by using the video in of your graphic accelerator.
The picture of Asus geforce card TV INs is just crap, compared to what my DC10+ can do.

i said this long time ago;dedicated PCI cards tend to give better image than combo's.....

but also did you know that co-author of this FAQ (SillKotscha) was capturing pal to mjpeg with 540 lines????
(see this
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?thre...2&highlight=576 )
so he's credible enough person to write or translate capture faq.......(lol!)

also this flaw goes back long time while "ookami" was capturing with asus combo card without ever testing dedicated cards......beats me where the hell did he draw his conclusions from.......
(i have seen both ,and mere bt8x8 beats combo cards (with most of them have philips chips) with ease...)

although, the image of such combo cards can be improved with some sort of sharpening etc.

once i tried to correct some mistakes in these d9 derivative capture faq's but mod's responses were not that good...they think they are good enough as they are....so let them be....(even the latest version has many mistakes)

true enough,if i remember correctly it was a private discussion between me and mijo....(now that's what i call "a letter to a wrong address"!)

in other news headlines, thewef accepted my apologies..(with that gesture ,there's no more bad blood between me and d9 members)......and as i said,d9 won't get any more lines from me (ever), nor will he receive any respect from me (ever),and i'm still on my ground;i won't be correcting the stuff of forum that i'm expelled from.....not in a million years......you called it a blackmail, i say it would be fair to participate in a place i'm doing something valuable for......
(i have a deep respect for the stuff YOU did for capturing guide project and i would join YOU in improving it..on d9 forum that is.......)

as is,even these 2 "small" forums+ my croatian NG are taking waay to much of my time let alone a (very small ,obviously after this) possibility to re-appear in d9 forums....so i'll probably skip improving the d9 capturing stuff......( i'm still opened to discussion on that matter...but it won't be me who will do the calling....)

my happy co-habitation on these places shows how wrong d9 was,and for sure i didn't change my ways or approach since my d9 days.....that forum is just too heavily moderated (and in many cases by stupid folks too....to quote the words of one d9 forum member (now a moderator at very same forum) it's a "snotty forum"...).....

..and on the end,i said that i would help with the capturing stuff if i get back on the forum.....that doesn't mean i would hang-out there too often,as it's too hostile place for freedom loving folks like i am.....if a have to weigh every word of mine, then i say goodbye....

Oh my god - Ivos never ending story ! We all had to start capturing some time ago and made mistakes, the doom9 capture guide in the new version made by Wilbert, steVe and some other people is IMO the best available on the net.

BTW:

I have to quote Sill himself:

QUOTE
a resolution of 720x540 (strange/ peculiar resolution, I know but I have to use it only while capturing with MJPEG otherwise all is screwed up - I don't know why?!)

Think this is clear now, and believe me, we are able to capture @576 now...

what does that suppose to mean?
doesn't matter here but you didn't challenged any of my suggestions to your guide that were presented in my first long reply to that thread.........

so yes,i'm the crazy one here....probably wilbert is too,as me and him departed from usual standpoints of capturing approach, because we did some capturings, and some watching....that simple.....

also,as i said captureFAQ suggestions were a private conversation between me and mijo, although at least one issue was mentined too in cap.guide suggestions thread......so don't let that bother you too much....
captureFAQ si still far from being truthfull, let alone being perfect....

you still don't get it?
i had a private "almost-a-conversation" with him and all i could conclude was that he was using 540 because 720/540=1,33333 ok?
he never explained what's wrong with mjpeg when i and didee asked.....go figure that one out...it's on the end of that thread....

and you're right, wilbert probably made best available guide, but we were just discussing a ways to make it even a bit beter after i saw ppera2's bt-tweaker "guide"........that was all.......

look at the capture guide3 suggestions thread;it has 6 articles and nowhere an importtant issue...heck i would think of at least 3 things that could be bettered...

all this "fight" with d9 was forced upon me by d9 himself, and to tell the truth i would never actively participate there again (i have yet to see a forum that has it's boot so deep in it's users throat...really...i'm starting to shake all over again..LOL! ), but i promised to wilbert that i would help him again IF i was welcomed back.....as wilbert is the only guy there who was willing to listen to any suggestions ,unlike the rest....if it wasn't for him(to back me up),probably none of my suggestions would make it in..

his listening payed-out in the end, didn't it?
check out the differences bettween your first draft, and his version and then remember who was proposing what.......

huh just something ocurred to me ,and i'll ask wilbert if they included that thing....

This is not true. I did, but you are right that this doesnt matter here. I dont want to get much more into this discussion as it is endless IMO.

Live long and capture.

An English Version of my capture Guide is online now:
http://www.doom9.org/capture/start.html

Thanks to doom9, killingspree and Donald Graft

Thanks very good guide but found some of it a bit puzzling maybe because it was for an old version?
I have ver 1.9 and couldnt find settings you talk about.
Also in capture mode you say after you have the settings as you like save the profile, but where can i do that in ver1.9 ?
you also say "make sure Direct draw acceleration(both fields) is enabled under Capture menu but I dont see it there and cant find it.
you also mention capture timing and say activate "resample audio data dynamically to match video clock" but I cant find such a thing.

I guess you are talking about VirtualVCR. That section was written (or translated i think) on release: 06/10/2004. I'm not sure what version was out at that time.

I don't have the capture guide in front of me, but I have VirtualDub smile.gif and the equivalents (I think) are:

(you enter capture mode, of course)

"Direct draw acceleration(both fields)" = (menu) Video > Preview Acceleration > Progressive (both fields)

"resample audio data dynamically to match video clock" = (menu) Capture > Timing > Sync audio to video by resampling the audio to a faster or slower rate

Don't know about the first one (saving the profile).
