In configuring the compression, there is a field for Quality Preset and there are three choices - General Purpose, Real-Time and User Defined. What is the difference between General Purpose and Real-Time? In other words, how do I decide what is best for any particular project? |

The question is probably about the Xvid video-codec.
In the Xvid configuration dialogbox there is a "more..." button besides the Quality preset, so you can proceed to further settings.
Depending on the fact whether the Real-Time or General Purpose options was selected, you will get other values in the Motion and Quantization tabs. General Purpose should give the best quality, but will take a longer time to encode.
Via Google you can search for the meaning of the concerning settings (Xvid settings).
