Im getting audio sync errors when I delete the ads from a movie that I recorded from television. I have tried Virtualdub and tried Video to video editor , both cause the same problem. Are there any free programs that can do this without sync errors ? when the people talk in the film , you can see that the audio is out of sync with their lips |

Maybe you can first tell us in which format you did record that movie (AVI, MPEG2, MP4, MOV, ...) and what audio- and video-codec you have used for that ? It can also be that you did record it onto a DVD via a DVD-recorder ? Or was it via a tuner/capture card on your computer ?
Secondly, when you open this movie in VirtualDub, is it opened via an input plugin (FFMpeg, MPEG2, DirectShow, QuickTime, ...) ?
You can check this in VirtualDub, via File > File information... (when the movie is opened of course).
Regards. |

You can open MTS in VirtualDub via: - DirectShow plugin (you already tried this) - FFMpeg plugin (not yet tested ?)
So, you can give it a try with the FFMpeg inputdriver plugin, latest version 0.8.2.0 (released a few days ago by dloneranger) > https://sourceforge.net/projects/virtualdub.../?source=navbar
When the "Open video file"-dialogbox is shown, select the *.MTS-file, then check the option "Ask for extended options after this dialog", and in Files of type: select FFMpeg Supported Files. After you click the Open-button, you will find an option to "Resync Audio to Video". Check if the original file has already sync problems or not.
If it is not, and after having edited that file, you hear that the audio is out of sync, you can try to resolve this by using the Audio-menu > Interleaving > Delay audio track by ... Negative values make the audio to start earlier, positive values make it to start later. Values are expressed in milliseconds. Depending on the number of frames per second, you can make the calculation (for example: at 25 fps, each frame is equal to 40 milliseconds). Starting from an "out of sync" of 3 to 4 frames between audio and video, you can already remark this. |

Re: the audio interleave dialog
If you use a plugin that returns uncompressed audio (or if the audio in uncompressed already) you can also use the audio view to adjust the sync Open the audio display from the view menu, then you can visually drag the audio left/right by holding down the CTRL key while dragging This is very handy if you have a visual clue like a door slamming so you can line the spike up on it easily
