I have installed VD 1.6.19.0 MPEG-2 on my machine W7 64 bit as well as the Matrox codecs. It runs just fine and Video>>>Compression shows me all I need! After installation of the same VD-version and the same Matrox package on a machine W8.1 of a friend of mine, Video>>>Compression does not show any codec. Any smart suggestion to solve this will be highly appreciated. Cheers, Wim |

When I read the information about the Matrox codecs, via http://www.matrox.com/video/en/support/win...res/version1.0/ I see that these codecs are provided for 32-bit AND 64-bit.
I suppose that - at the time of installation - the installer will check whether it goes about a Windows 8.1 32-bit or 64-bit. If it is a 64-bit, it will install corresponding codecs. I suppose that this is what happened at your friends computer.
The VirtualDub 1.6.19 (a rather old version) that you have installed is probably a 32-bits version. You must know that VirtualDub 32-bit does not work with 64-bit vfw codecs and vice-versa.
So, what you best can do, is download the most recent version of VirtualDub (1.10.5-test7 in a ZIP-package), and extract the right xx-bit version to your friends computer. http://forums.virtualdub.org/index.php?act...15&t=22042&st=0
N.B.: Myself, I do not have Windows 8.1, but you should be able to check it's xx-bit version via Control Panel > System.
Good luck. |

thanks Abrazo, also for the Matrox link. When I opened that site in order to download I discovered that there is a Version 2 in the meantime. In the specs of only that codec W8.1 is mentioned, that fails with the versions 1. I'll follow your suggestions but will also try what the effect of version2 will be. Cheers, Wim |
